Dr Rajan Rehan

Dr Rajan Rehan is a consultant interventional cardiologist with subspecialty expertise in complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), coronary physiology, angina with non-obstructive coronary arteries (ANOCA/INOCA), and transcatheter structural heart intervention.

His interventional practice encompasses intravascular imaging-guided procedures using optical coherence tomography (OCT) and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), coronary physiology assessment including fractional flow reserve (FFR) and coronary flow reserve (CFR), and calcium modification techniques including intravascular lithotripsy (IVL/shockwave), rotational atherectomy, and excimer laser coronary atherectomy (ELCA). He has extensive experience in high-risk PCI cases, including those requiring mechanical circulatory support.

Dr Rehan is an experienced structural heart interventionalist with expertise in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve therapies, left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO), and patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure. He performs procedures at Liverpool Hospital, Southwest Private Hospital and North Shore Private.

Education & Training

Dr Rehan completed his medical degree at Bond University, Queensland, followed by a Master of Public Health at the University of Sydney. He undertook Basic Physician Training and Advanced Cardiology Training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, where he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2021.

Dr Rehan completed his PhD at the University of Sydney between 2022 and 2025, with doctoral research focused on coronary microvascular dysfunction and invasive testing in ANOCA, supported by a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Postgraduate Scholarship. Following the completion of his PhD, he undertook dual Interventional Cardiology Fellowships at St Thomas’ Hospital and Royal Brompton Hospital in London.

He holds Fellowship of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (FCSANZ), Fellowship of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE), and Level A CT Coronary Angiography accreditation. Dr Rehan holds a Senior Clinical Lecturer appointment at the Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney, and is actively involved in supervising and mentoring medical students, junior doctors, and cardiology trainees.

Research

Dr Rehan’s research focuses on coronary microvascular dysfunction, ANOCA/INOCA, and coronary vasomotor disorders. His work has been published in journals including JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions, Circulation: Cardiovascular Interventions, Heart, and the Journal of Clinical Investigation. He maintains research collaborations with investigators at Stanford University, the University of Sydney, and centres across the United Kingdom and Europe, supported by competitive grant funding.

He has been recognised with the Australia and New Zealand Endovascular Therapies (ANZET) Early Career Research Award (2023) and was named a Ralph Reader Prize finalist at the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand Annual Scientific Meeting (2024).
